TIOH Passover Spice Blends

Spice blends and recipes created especially for the TIOH Community by Hōmskool.

Matzah Ball Soup Spice Blend
Ingredients: sea salt, dill, green onion, lemon peel, parsley, rosemary, thyme, white pepper, garlic

How to use the Matzah Ball Soup Blend:
Our Soup Blend was developed to enhance the flavor of your matzah balls, whether you use a pre-made store-bought mix or make your own. Use the packet to season the liquid/broth in which you poach your matzah balls. We recommend using a low-sodium chicken or vegetable stock and one matzah ball soup blend packet. Be mindful; the seasoning contains salt, so you may want to omit or reduce any additional salt in your liquid.

Maror Spice Blend
Ingredients: sea salt, wasabi powder, vinegar powder, garlic, parsley, tarragon, lemon peel

How to use the Maror Spice Blend:
Combine the contents of your “Maror” packet with 7 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, 4 Tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 2-3 Tbsp of freshly grated horseradish (or prepared horseradish) as needed to kick up your “bitter herbs” vinaigrette! Enjoy over lightly tossed spring greens.

Seasoning Salt Spice Blend
Ingredients: sea salt, onion, thyme, sage, marjoram, nutmeg, celery seed, chili, black and white peppercorns

How to use the Seasoning Salt Blend:
This is your most versatile packet. You could use it as a pungent table salt at your seder. We tested the blend with roasted salmon and chicken and found it equally complimentary. It has a hint of spice, containing chili and black and white peppercorns.

Charoset Spice Blend
Ingredients: cane sugar, Ceylon cinnamon, honey, black currant, allspice, cloves, ginger, star anise, apple, sea salt

How to use the Charoset Spice Blend:
Charoset has endless recipes, all delicious and packed full of flavor and family traditions. You can combine the charoset spice with your recipe or try it with ours:

2-3 apples (our preference is granny smith) – peeled and cubed
¾ cup toasted, unsalted walnuts
½ lb Medjool or Halwai pitted dates
2 oz Grand Marnier
1-2 tbsp Silan date syrup (can substitute with honey)
1 packet TIOH charoset spice blend

Add toasted walnuts to a food processor, pulse until they are finely chopped, and set aside.

Process the dates and apples with the orange liquor until it makes a thick paste; add the walnuts, date syrup & seasoning blend and pulse until you reach your preferred texture.
This will make approximately 8 small servings.
