Direct Action

DIRECT SERVICE ACTIONS
Temple Israel of Hollywood partners with several organizations to give back to the community.
In addition to volunteer opportunities with our partners, we have ongoing direct service and actions at TIOH:
TIOH’s Phone Action Wednesdays
Drop-in online for our monthly Phone Action Wednesday! We will make phone calls, write postcards, and learn from experts on a wide range of social justice issues. Folks who are new to this kind of advocacy work, as well as veteran engagers, are welcome. Parents are encouraged to bring children of all ages. Breakfast is always served. Training is continually available. This is a space of community and learning. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates.
The TIOH Lunch Project
Join friends, or make new ones, by providing pre-packaged meals to homeless and hungry L.A. youth. You can shop for us, too! If you have limited time, The Lunch Project serves up a perfect opportunity for you to help. Contact Alexa Pogue at ajlmdpogue@gmail.com for more information.
TIOH’s Christmas Dinner for the Hungry & Homeless
For 30 years, TIOH members and friends have been serving Christmas dinner to over 1200 of our homeless and hungry neighbors from across L.A. In a typical year we provide individuals and families with a beautiful, table-served holiday meal, clothing, fresh socks, blankets, toiletries, new toys, and photos with Santa Claus. With the current situation, the event has been modified to follow safety precautions. Please join our planning team! Contact Sophie Sartain at sophiesartain@gmail.com for more information.
Social Justice Sundays
Join our monthly family actions that will include a special project, an off-site visit to a non-profit organization, or even going to clean up a park. For more information, please email community@tioh.org.
Best Foot Forward
Every year, TIOH members participate in Best Food Forward and provide a few hundred pairs of new shoes to local elementary school children in need. For many of the recipient children, these are their very first pair of brand new shoes. Each donor is matched with a specific child in need so they can provide the proper size and fit. To participate, please contact Ronit (rmenache@tioh.org) at TIOH’s Briskin Elementary School at (323) 876-8330 x4000.
