Renewal-Style Kabbalat Shabbat Service w/Rabbi Anne Brener
March 8 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Is the Judaism at Temple Israel different than the Judaism of your youth?
Many of the changes in Jewish practice in the 21st century influence the Jewish Renewal Movement. Founded by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, z”l, Jewish Renewal has been described as a wind that has blown through the Jewish world to make Judaism more egalitarian, accessible and deeper while at the same time more fun, than the Judaism practiced in the shadow of the Second World War. Jewish Renewal, often called Neo-Hassidism, marries the rich spiritual life that preceded the Holocaust in much of Eastern Europe to progressive values of feminism, environmentalism, and inclusion. Join us on Friday Night March 8 to learn more about Renewal, Reb Zalman, and to enjoy an “eco-Kosher” dinner. Temple member Rabbi Anne Brener, who studied with Reb Zalman, will join our clergy to share the delight and the meaning of a Renewal Shabbat.
The dinner is generously subsidized by an anonymous donor. Please make your RSVP below.
