MLK, Jr. Shabbat: “Bridging the Gap: Education, Equity, and Empowerment” with guest speaker Demontea Thompson
January 17, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
For our MLK, Jr. Shabbat this year, we are pleased to be joined by special guest, Demontea Thompson, from UCLA’s Center for the Transformation of Schools.
During his talk on “Bridging the Gap: Education, Equity, and Empowerment,” Demontea will reflect on the state of our schools and how racial inequality is being addressed, and the work that still needs to be done. His focus is on marginalized students, particularly those who have had interactions with the child welfare and justice system.
Demontea is a Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellow, a Compton, CA native, co-founder and Executive Director of Twinspire, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that works for and with youth in need of life skill services, a slam poet and author of the inspirational autobiography, Raised From Scratch.
