Voting Symposium Speaker and Moderator Bios

Gus Sustaita is a community activist. He has worked in Democratic politics for over 15 years and has been active in campaigns across the country. He currently serves as the Vice President for Political Affairs at the Miracle Mile Democratic Club, where he has prioritized educating the community on the local political process and local races. He has been a proud member of TIOH for four years and became an adult Bar Mitzvah earlier this year.

Dr. Loraine Lundquist is a community activist, educator, and mom. In her spare time, she likes to compile a list of endorsers and donors to the ballot propositions, and this year she’s given over a dozen talks on the ballot to community groups across LA. She’s also been both a candidate and a campaign manager in previous election cycles. In her day job, she teaches sustainability at Cal State University Northridge, and her Ph.D. in Physics is from UC Berkeley. She lives with her husband and three children in Northridge.

Louis Abramson is a policy analyst at RAND and a community organizer in Hollywood. He earned his PhD in astrophysics from U. Chicago in 2015 and was elected to the Central Hollywood Neighborhood Council in 2019, chairing its Homelessness Committee until 2023.  During the pandemic, Louis led LA Times-recognized work to distribute food to seniors and count homeless Angelenos. He currently chairs the board of the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, which activates and empowers citizens, participants, and partners to end homelessness. His experience supporting vulnerable members of his community catalyzed his 2022 State Assembly candidacy to represent central LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood.
