Trudie Strobel: A Life in Tapestry
Opens February 26 and on view through June 30, 2023,
in Temple Israel of Hollywood’s Shpall Hall.
Using her craft as a tool for healing, Holocaust Survivor Trudie Strobel weaves together intricate designs and vivid colors that reflect her personal experiences during World War II along with her interpretations of Jewish history and appreciation for religious traditions and rituals. Trudie’s art speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of bearing witness to the past.
From Maya Savin Miller, the teen that discovered Trudie’s work and acts as curator of its art exhibits: “Trudie Strobel’s body of work is a cry for tolerance in an exquisitely personal voice—the voice of someone who survived a genocide determined to eliminate her people. It is also a testament to the human capacity for forgiveness and to the healing powers of art. In our divided world, Trudie’s voice can and will make a difference.”
“A Life in Tapestry” comes to Temple Israel by the Women of TIOH, a group within our community committed to supporting the arts, education, and social justice initiatives. Additionally, the exhibition is made possible through the support of the Rosenthal Arts Center Fund and other generous sponsors.
We welcome visitors to view this extraordinary exhibition on weekdays from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and Sundays from 10 am to noon. For those who wish to coordinate a visit, please email Zach Lehmann at zlehmann@tioh.org.
